25 years of operation in Jiangsu Province, helping to upgrade and transform industry there

In the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Wuxi accelerated its industrial upgrading and transformation. Starting from the industries that are its traditional strengths, Wuxi has focused on developing advanced manufacturing industries. In doing so, it has gradually cultivated the formation of landmark industrial clusters for the Internet of Things, biomedicine and integrated circuits alongside industrial clusters that hold promise for the future such as high-end equipment, energy conservation and environmental protection, new energy, automobiles and parts, and high-end textiles and garments. In the process, Wuxi is now moving to map out operations in future-facing industries like hydrogen energy and energy storage.

In 2022, Jiangsu Province's trade with the EU amounted to RMB 832.43 billion, an increase of 8.6% over the previous year, and exceeded the RMB 800 billion threshold for the first time. Wuxi, one of the key economic cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, saw its total foreign trade imports and exports exceed US$110 billion in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.

In recent years, Jiangsu has set itself the goal of accelerating the construction of a strong manufacturing province. To achieve this, it is further developing the manufacturing of high-end equipment, new energy, new materials, green low-carbon industries and other high-tech sectors. At the same time, the region is comprehensively promoting intelligent manufacturing, pushing forward the high-end, intelligent and green development of chemical, textile, machinery and other industries where it has traditionally been a strong performer. It is also vigorously developing the digital economy and empowering industrial development with digital technology. A considerable number of these industries are highly compatible with TÜV SÜD's existing business segments and reflect the two strategic development themes of TÜV SÜD's digital transformation and sustainable development.

In 1998 TÜV SÜD established an office in Wuxi, one of its earliest branches in China. The goals were to provide better services to enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta and surrounding areas, to develop domestic and international markets, and to seize opportunities and meet challenges. Now TÜV SÜD has upgraded its office and testing centre in Wuxi to further enhance its professional and technical service capabilities in the region. The newly upgraded Wuxi Testing Centre is equipped with a number of laboratories for electrical and electronic testing, medical device testing, electromagnetic compatibility testing and rapid screening of toxic and hazardous substances. In addition to 10m and 3m anechoic chambers for acoustic and electromagnetic testing, the laboratory provides X-ray/CT rooms for testing the safety of machinery, facilities for testing the performance of household appliances, testing facilities for garden tools, and other major testing facilities and related testing equipment.

Empowering digital transformation and sustainability

In his speech at the inauguration of the test centre, Dr Johannes Bussmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD, said: “To continue creating added value for our customers and inspiring trust in the market, TÜV SÜD has always focused on continuously improving its technical expertise and services. As a leading global testing and certification company, we recognise the importance of deepening our cooperation with a thriving city like Wuxi and look forward to making a greater contribution to the city's industrial development and economic growth.”

TÜV SÜD has opted to include cybersecurity, AI and sustainability in the Group's development strategies. The launch in recent years of carbon services, carbon footprint labels, green hydrogen certification, new energy power batteries, photovoltaic energy storage and other related services can help enterprises to walk the road to sustainable development. At the same time, TÜV SÜD's rich global resources and authoritative and professional team of experts in fundamental fields of smart network connectivity, network information security, Internet of Things and smart home can also strengthen the foundation for enterprises in the process of digital transformation.

The upgrade of TÜV SÜD Wuxi and its testing centre is another milestone in TÜV SÜD's development in China. TÜV SÜD Wuxi will continue to develop and innovate in line with local and regional industries, to put the testing centre to good use and add value to both customers and industry. TÜV SÜD will further build consumer trust, helping Chinese companies on the road to digital transformation and sustainable development.
