TÜV SÜD’s activities in the field of sustainability are attracting attention – and awards. In late November, TÜV SÜD scored 78 out of 100 possible points in the EcoVadis CSR rating to earn Platinum status. This once again places TÜV SÜD among the top one per cent of rated companies in its category. EcoVadis rates the CSR performance of companies across four sustainability themes: environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. TÜV SÜD was also successful in two further sustainability competitions.
“We are very excited about the award, which provides third-party confirmation that our actions in this field are targeted, effective and sustainable. This recognition delivers momentum for further actions and activities that will take us one step closer to our goal of becoming the most sustainable company in the testing, inspection and certification (TIC) sector”, explains Dr Johannes Bussmann, CEO of TÜV SÜD AG. “We are currently restructuring our internal efforts in this area, with the aim of further professionalising and advancing our activities”.
EcoVadis: improvement in performance for the fourth successive year
Over recent years, TÜV SÜD has analysed and restructured CSR topics across all functions and areas of the group, integrated new policies into its Corporate Management Manual, defined performance indicators and actions and started to implement them. As a result, the TIC company’s commitment has gained increasing attention and been assessed as effective and targeted. TÜV SÜD scored 78 points in the international EcoVadis rating, confirming its annual improvement for the fourth year in succession. Most recently, TÜV SÜD achieved its most significant improvements in the “Environment” theme. Like last year, this has once more placed TÜV SÜD among the top one per cent of rated companies in its category.
Further nominations and accolades
At the 16th German Sustainability Award (GSA), one of the best-known and most renowned competitions, TÜV SÜD AG and its activities for a future worth living were among the finalists from the “research and development, testing, inspection and certification activities” category. This makes TÜV SÜD one of the pioneers of transformation. The GSA annually honours outstanding and effective contributions to a sustainable future. Its criteria are guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the fields of action derived therefrom: climate, nature, resources, value chain and society. Finalists and award winners in the multi-step rating process are judged by an expert jury.
TÜV SÜD AG also won the 2023 Sustainable Supply Award, presented by the German Association of Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics (BME), for its Corporate Procurement function. According to the jury, the company won the prize for its innovative and comprehensive design and implementation of sustainability-focused restructuring in its procurement function and procurement processes. Central elements in this measure were the introduction of a TÜV SÜD Supplier Code of Conduct and of a harmonised process for integrating sustainability aspects and ESG requirements throughout the supplier life cycle.
