Data Centre Infrastructure Services

Ensure complete and constant data centre availability

Ensure complete and constant data centre availability

Data centres play a fundamental role in the world’s digital economy as organisations and consumers increasingly rely on the applications, services and data held within them. As your trusted data centre partner, our services support tenants/colocation and owners.

Businesses depend on the reliability of their data centre services to ensure operations function safely and continuously. If the service level that internal and external customers depend on is to be consistently met and exceeded, security and availability must be a top priority. These challenges are a vital consideration at the initial planning and commissioning stages, with commissioning management effectiveness relying on the construction phase fulfilling quality assurance, regulatory compliance and operational performance demands.

It is also imperative to have ongoing confidence in and maintain the continuous health of your data centre services. This puts multiple demands on data centre management as they must prove to stakeholders a data centre’s reliability, sustainability, safety and security. The effective measurement of data centre sustainability compliance is also a key challenge to ensuring future readiness certainty.

ISO/IEC 22237 – the world’s leading standard for data centre infrastructure certification

Since 2015, data centre service providers in Europe have relied on the EN 50600 standard to provide clarity. Subsequently, ISO/IEC 22237 adopted this approach and elevates EN 50600 to an international level.

ISO/IEC 22237 pursues a holistic approach to design, construction and operation, enabling data centres to be planned, built and operated worldwide according to identical principles. This provides designers and planners with complete clarity and gives tenants and data centre service providers trust in the availability of data centre services, and the quality control of their management processes on a global scale.

From preparation and pre-audits up to data centre certification, TÜV SÜD supports the implementation of ISO/IEC 22237 through our global network of experts.

A data centre that is in accordance with ISO/IEC 22237 must meet clear requirements with respect to availability, security ratings and data centre energy efficiency, all of which must be considered right from the design and construction stage. These requirements have been defined in the seven parts of the standard:

  • ISO/IEC 22237-1: 2021 - General concepts
  • ISO/IEC TS 22237-2: 2024 - Building construction
  • ISO/IEC 22237-3: 2021 - Power distribution
  • ISO/IEC 22237-4: 2021 - Environmental control
  • ISO/IEC TS 22237-5: 2018 - Telecommunications cabling infrastructure
  • ISO/IEC 22237-6: 2024 - Security systems
  • ISO/IEC TS 22237-7: 2018 - Management and operational information

The crucial advantage of ISO/IEC 22237 data centre certification is that a single certificate covers the entire infrastructure, including the definition of measurable KPIs and requirements for operational data centre management and energy efficiency. Not only is this an efficient approach, it also enables international comparisons to be drawn and establishes a solid contractual basis for all parties involved.

FIVE-LEVEL TESTING AND COMMISSIONING

This is a dynamic process of planning and performing all necessary quality controls that encompass the entire data centre infrastructure of complex interfaces and interdependencies. Testing and commissioning is conducted by TÜV SÜD, alongside the tenant and data centre service provider, using a five-level approach, which is based upon clearly defined and agreed quality-gates. The successful completion of the commissioning process is marked with a Commissioning Compliance Letter.
