What is nuclear equipment qualification and why is it important?

Equipment qualification provides documented evidence that the electrical, instrumentation and control (I&C), and mechanical equipment are able to perform their safety-related functions reliably on demand - in normal and abnormal conditions, or even in the event of an accident. Equipment qualification also enables early detection of errors and weaknesses, which helps to prevent costly rework and saves time.
