The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the launch of a new online option for the submission of notifications for food ingredients and food packaging materials.
Developed for the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), the new online module, known as the CSFAN Online Submission Module (COSM), allows users to electronically submit various petitions and notifications to the agency’s Office of Food Additive Safety (OFAS) as required under FDA regulations. According to an FDA press release, the COSM provides an easy-to-follow, step-by-step process to assemble and file fully electronic submissions, thereby eliminating the need for food producers to print and mail paper submissions. However, the agency will continue to accept paper petitions and notifications.
