Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken

Axel Stepken was born in Essen, Germany. He studied Electrical Engineering at RWTH Aachen and achieved his PhD in High-Voltage Engineering in 1989.
Upon completion of his PhD, Axel Stepken worked at ABB, where he held several management positions in Germany and Indonesia within the Power Transmission and Distribution Segment. He joined TÜV SÜD AG in 2002 as Member of the Board of Management, responsible for the INDUSTRY Segment as well as the ASIA-PACIFIC Strategic Region. In June 2007, Axel Stepken was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG
Prof. Dr. Matthias J. Rapp

Born in 1967 in Schramberg/Schwarzwald (Black Forest), Matthias J. Rapp studied Business Administration at WHU (Otto Beisheim School of Management) Koblenz, ESC Lyon and Manchester Business School. He completed his doctorate at WHU Koblenz from 1992 to 1995. In summer 2021 Matthias J. Rapp was appointed Honorary Professor by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich).
Matthias J. Rapp started his professional career with the global management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group before moving to industry in 1997, where he has since held positions as Chief Financial Officer in several prestigious companies, most recently as CFO of Webasto SE. Matthias J. Rapp was appointed Member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG with effect from August 2013 and is responsible for Finance and Controlling.
Ishan Palit

Ishan Palit was born in 1968 in Mumbai, India. He studied in the USA and the UK, and holds a Bachelors Degree from Davidson College, USA, a General Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, UK and a Masters in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University, USA.
Ishan Palit started his career with the American multinational “Rotary Corporation”, a supplier to the Automotive and Small Engine industry. He joined the TÜV SÜD Group in 1994 and founded the TÜV SÜD operations in India. As COO and then the CEO, he was responsible for the successful development of TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific and was subsequently promoted to CEO of the Global Product Service Division. Ishan Palit was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the TÜV SÜD Group in May 2017, responsible for operations and sales across all Divisions and geographies.

Niranjan Nadkarni
Chief Executive Officer, TÜV SÜD South & South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa
Mr. Niranjan Nadkarni was appointed Chief Executive Officer of TÜV SÜD South & South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa region on July 1, 2017. He is responsible for the strategic and corporate growth of the markets under his purview. In his current role, his key focus is to augment synergies within the sub-region by leveraging personnel and business competencies available to strengthen service and market portfolio of each sub-region.
With over two decades of experience, Niranjan started his career with SKF Bearings India Pvt. Ltd. In 1995, he made an unconventional move to join a five-member team at TÜV SÜD. He then qualified to become a Lead Auditor for management system certification ISO 9001, QS 9000, VDA 6.1 and TS 16949. During this tenure, he performed audits and training in many markets across the globe such as USA, Germany, Japan, China, South Korea, ASEAN and South Asia.
In 1998, he was appointed the head of South India region for TÜV SÜD South Asia. After managing this portfolio for over eight years, Niranjan was appointed as Vice President- Product Services, with the thrust to set up the Product Services portfolio in South Asia. He was instrumental in establishing a network of state-of-the-art laboratories for food, textiles and leather along with planning and implementation of market expansion strategy.
In 2009, he was appointed CEO of TÜV SÜD South Asia where he was responsible for the firm’s growth across India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Under his leadership, TÜV SÜD South Asia witnessed exponential growth in new business areas, expanded its product offerings and double digit financial growth.
Brought up in Mumbai, Niranjan is a Mechanical Engineer and has Masters’ degree in Management from Pune University in India. He is an avid reader and enjoys travelling and cross-country trekking.
Mr. Atul Bakre
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Atul Bakre currently serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of TÜV SÜD South Asia, comprising India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
In his current role as CFO, Mr. Bakre is responsible for finances, controlling, M&A and purchases of the region. He further oversees matters pertaining to risk management, corporate development, strategic planning and corporate governance in this vast and diverse market.
A graduate from the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India (ICWA), and a CS degree holder from Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Mr. Bakre brings with him over 2 decades of experience across multiple domains in finance, accounting and taxation & audit planning.
Over his career span, Mr. Bakre has successfully led and executed multiple projects in costing systems, ERP systems and SOP modules, among several others. His effort in the implementation of the same earned him the Star Performer of the Year award in 2011.
Mr. Bakre has a sound understanding of key aspects of financial administration, backed by a global mindset and a strong & diverse business background.
Ms. Suchitra Shahapurkar
Vice President, Corporate Human Resources, TÜV SÜD South & South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa
Ms. Suchitra Shahapurkar, has been associated with TÜV SÜD for over 11 years. She has played an instrumental role in re-engineering the structure, role and responsibilities of the Human Resources department in the South Asia region. Under her leadership, the HR team successfully crafted and delivered a road map to an efficient and effective business partner approach towards businesses at one end and employee engagement at the other. In 2017, her portfolio was expanded to a larger geography encompassing countries in ASEAN, Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining TÜV SÜD South Asia, she has worked in varied sectors like BPO and healthcare.
Suchitra holds a Master's degree in Human Resource Management from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, a Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, and a Post-Graduate degree in Psychology from the University of Mumbai. She has also attended a 'Strategic Management, Leadership & Change' training programme at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Suchitra, a movie buff, is a foodie and enjoys music and reading.
