Ensuring the quality and safety of their products is a prerequisite for producers in the food, health and beauty industries. Now, TÜV SÜD is offering a Product Testing Label that complements the quality programmes of producers. This new and innovative service combines the verification of important composition information, ongoing quality control measures, and validates product claims for the benefit of both producers and consumers. This information can be accessed by consumers via a product QR code to allow maximum traceability of quality efforts and to support informed decisions.
Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about TÜV SÜD’s Product Testing Label services.
Controlling quality control issues during production can be a challenging task, especially in industries that rely on extensive and complex supply chains involving multiple parties for components, materials and raw ingredients. The challenge of controlling quality can become even more difficult over time, as supply chain partners change and new ones are engaged in the production process. Unfortunately, such dynamics can unintentionally result in the production of products that fail to meet product specifications, or quality or safety considerations. In the hands of consumers, substandard products reflect poorly on both the company and the brand, and may encourage consumers to seek alternative products of more consistent quality.
TÜV SÜD’s Product Testing Label complements internal quality review efforts as well as our extensive regulatory compliance testing and certification services. Specifically, it provides producers with independent assurances that their products are consistently being manufactured in accordance with the defined parameters and product specifications. Under the Product Testing Label programme, random product samples are regularly obtained from production runs, product warehouses or retailer shelves for evaluation and testing. Sample selection is conducted exclusively by TÜV SÜD personnel to help ensure the integrity of the sample selection process. During the evaluation, TÜV SÜD verifies the sample’s compliance with selected regulatory requirements as well as additional selected quality parameters.
The product evaluation programme and quality items tested under TÜV SÜD’s Product Testing Label are posted to a secure online platform for direct access by consumers. In addition, a quick response (QR) code is printed on product labels, enabling interested parties to use a smart phone and other scanning device to quickly access detailed information about the testing plan and schedule. Information posted to the online platform can be made available in any language. Currently project information are available in English, German, Chinese and Japanese.
In today’s competitive market for food, health and beauty products, TÜV SÜD’s Product Testing Label assures producers that their products are consistently being produced in accordance with the prescribed standards and specifications, regardless of production location or timeframe. For consumers, the presence of the TÜV SÜD Product Testing Label QR code helps to affirm a producer’s commitment to placing only the highest quality products on the market.
