    Department of Electrical Services (DES, Prime Minister Office)

    Regulations

    • For registration, products must conform to safety requirements according to standards stipulated by the DES under the Electricity Act.
    • Compliance with IEC standards.

    Guidelines

    • Suppliers registering products should register through the Product Procurement Section.
    • Product approval will be endorsed by the Registration Committee upon satisfactory conformity assessment with the provision of quality assurance details, test reports and certification by international test bodies, etc.

    Regulations

    • There are currently no mandatory requirements in Brunei.
    • The Energy Labelling Scheme is voluntary for room air conditioners.
    • The Energy Label will be issued in the form of a certificate and shall be based on a 5-Star rating scheme.

    Guidelines

    Manufacturers who wish to participate in the Energy Labelling Scheme may submit applications for both supplier registration and product registration to the Division.

  • Telecom and Wireless

    Regulatory agency

    Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI)

    Regulations

    • All telecommunication, radio communication and satellite equipment to be sold and used in Brunei Darussalam must be type approved by AITI.
    • Type approval must be registered under a local representative who holds a valid AITI Dealer licence.
    • FCC/EN test reports are acceptable and there is no sample requirement.
    • An import permit is required for products to enter customs, upon type approval of equipment.
    • Products must be marked with the AITI Approved label.

    EMC:

    • EMC compliance is required for the above, where applicable.

    Guidelines

    A local representative is required.

    Type approval procedure:

    • Registration for license.
    • Application for type approval.
    • Submission of test report and essential documents.
    • Review of documents. § Issuance of type approval. § Issuance of import permit.

    • Level 1: Faxes, telephone systems, PABX/KTS, ADSL modems (Fixed), audio and video conferencing systems, short range devices, VOIP
