Arc Flash Assessments

Arc Flash Assessments

ARC FLASH ASSESSMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES

We help the world’s most successful businesses identify the risk of dangerous arc flash incidents.

  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, NFPA 70, IEEE 1584, and OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910.
  • Protect workers from potentially deadly injuries.
  • Understand arc flash boundaries and proper PPE levels.
  • Get up-to-date arc flash labels.

Arc flash analysis uncovers potential electrical fire hazards in your facility that can lead to explosions, injuries, property damage, deaths, and significant downtime. Arc flash studies are critical for protecting your business from property losses and liability.

Arc flash assessment are REQUIRED:

  • Every 5 years.
  • After major additions or modifications.
  • If equipment is greater than 50 volts.
  • If your state adopted the 2017 edition of NFPA 70.
  • You can’t de-energize equipment remotely.

Case Study

Facility: Industrial manufacturing plant

Solution: GRC arc flash analysis identified a mismatched circuit breakers and a potentially catastrophic arc flash risk

Results: Millions in damage and months of business interruption avoided. With our help, the manufacturer mitigated the risk with no incident downtime, achieved compliance with NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584 standards, and safeguarded workers.

Our Process

  1. Data collection. GRC collects a wide range of data on your electrical system to use in studies and computer modeling. Information collected includes voltage, fault currents, wire sizes, components like breakers and fuses, over current protective devices, and more.
  2. Short-circuit study. We verify that protective devices and electrical equipment components have adequate interrupting capability. Engineers will examine equipment parameters like voltage, impedance, and power rating.
  3. Coordination study. Verify adequate protective device settings and proper coordination to isolate faults. Engineers examine overcurrent protected devices and make sure they will operate in the specified time limits to clear the fault.
  4. Arc flash study. Determine PPE requirements and proper arc flash boundaries.
  5. Label installation. We provide NFPA compliant labels showing workers to how to protect themselves and to lower the risk of shock, arc flash and arc blast to an acceptable level.
