WHAT IS TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING?

Training and capacity building refers to activities aimed at enhancing the knowledge, skills, abilities, and resources of individuals or organisations to perform their roles and responsibilities effectively. These activities strengthen capacities, empower individuals or groups to achieve their goals and contribute to sustainable development.

BENEFITS OF TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Training and capacity-building programmes offer several benefits, including:

• Enhanced knowledge and skills: Capacity-building training programmes provide participants with new knowledge, best practices, and practical skills that directly contribute to their professional growth and effectiveness. This leads to improved performance in their current roles and the ability to take on new responsibilities.

Increased organisational productivity: By investing in capacity-building training programmes, organisations can enhance the skills and competencies of their workforce. This results in increased productivity, efficiency, and quality of work, leading to better outcomes and overall organisational success.

Adaptability to change: Capacity-building training equips individuals and organisations with the skills and knowledge needed to adapt to changing circumstances, emerging trends, and evolving technologies. It enhances their ability to navigate challenges and seize new opportunities, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Strengthened leadership: Capacity-building programmes often include leadership development components. These programmes help individuals build leadership skills, such as strategic thinking, decision-making, and communication, enabling them to effectively lead teams and drive organisational growth.

Improved teamwork and collaboration: Training programmes that focus on capacity building foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration. Participants learn to work effectively in diverse teams, communicate more clearly, and resolve conflicts. This leads to improved collaboration, cooperation, and synergy among team members.

Enhanced organisational reputation: Organisations that invest in capacity-building training demonstrate their commitment to the growth and development of their employees. This commitment contributes to a positive corporate culture and improves the organisation's reputation as an employer of choice.

Increased job satisfaction and employee retention: Providing capacity-building opportunities to employees shows that the organisation values their professional growth. This leads to increased job satisfaction, motivation, and loyalty among employees, resulting in higher retention rates.

Facilitated innovation and creativity: Capacity-building training programmes often encourage innovation and creative thinking. Participants are exposed to new ideas, problem-solving techniques, and approaches stimulating organisational innovation.
