AESC, a trailblazer in sustainable energy solutions, has chosen TÜV SÜD to work with them on their ground-breaking 12GWh gigafactory project in Sunderland, north-east England. This new battery plant will be the first of its kind in the UK and is one of many projects completed by the two companies over the last 15 years.
TÜV SÜD will be working closely with AESC to ensure compliance and safety at every stage as the company aims to provide customers with enough batteries to power 100,000 electric vehicles annually. Our role will cover equipment compliance from raw material infeed systems under process safety, through to production equipment design, functional safety, ATEX and machinery safety services to ensure the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Paul Taylor, Business Development Director (Industry Services) at TÜV SÜD, shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying: "Our end-to-end offering is one of the strongest for all aspects of safety and compliance involved in the construction and operation of a gigafactory. It's a privilege to continue working with AESC on such an exciting project, which will play a pivotal role in the fight against climate change and provide over 1,000 jobs in the north-east of England."
This is AESC’s second battery factory in Sunderland and represents a major leap forward in electric vehicle battery production. The gigafactory will eventually be powered by 100% net zero carbon energy.
