Periodic inspection of offshore wind farms ensures safe, reliable and cost-effective operation. At the 2019 WindEurope Offshore conference and exhibition in Copenhagen, TÜV SÜD will present information about periodic inspections as well as its complete portfolio of services for offshore wind energy. (Hall C1, Stand C29).
TÜV SÜD has been recognised by the German Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH) for the certification of offshore wind farms and holds accreditation as a certification body for wind turbines and their components. Its experts have been involved in the majority of German offshore wind-farm projects in recent years and have extensive experience with all types of tests and inspections, expert reports and certifications required within the scope of international wind energy projects. “We pursue an integrated strategy”, explains Alexander Heitmann, Head of Offshore Wind Energy at TÜV SÜD in Hamburg. “By offering combined testing and inspection during the operational phase, we contribute significantly to further reducing costs in offshore wind energy. This strengthens the competitiveness of energy from renewable sources. We support operators without compromising on safety.”
TÜV SÜD's services include periodic testing of offshore structures, offshore wind energy turbines, components and equipment. In Germany, TÜV SÜD is also accredited as an authorised inspection agency (AIA) and is thus authorised to inspect installations and systems which are subject to mandatory inspection under Germany's Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV). In the field of offshore wind energy turbines, this applies to lifts, cranes, ladders and anchor points as well as explosion-protection and fire-safety equipment. “Our experts are familiar with all aspects of offshore wind-energy projects”, emphasises Alexander Heitmann. “In our project teams we pool the expertise required to perform specific contracts – not only in Germany, but in all key offshore wind-energy markets worldwide.”
