To ensure they are safe for children to play with, the European Union introduced the EU Toy Safety Directive, which aims to establish minimum safety standards relating to toy features, flammability, substances, documentation and more. In order for manufacturers and retailers to sell their products in the EU, the toys must be compliant to the directive.

Markus is responsible for supporting TÜV SÜD’s sales, lab and certification teams with his expertise in chemical testing of consumer products, including toys. He provides information and training on legal regulation, standards and testing methods.
He is member of the DIN, CEN and ISO committees for standardisation of chemical safety for consumer products. He is also the convenor of the Notified Body Meeting for toys, driving the experience exchange in Europe.
Markus holds a degree in Chemistry of the University of Cologne, Germany.
Mr. Robert Ziegler
Senior Product Specialist for safety of toys and child care articles, TÜV SÜD
Robert Ziegler is responsible for supporting TÜV SÜD’s sales, lab and certification teams with his expertise in mechanic testing of children products. He provides information and training on legal regulation, standards and testing methods.
He is member of the DIN, CEN and ISO committees for standardisation of mechanic safety for toys and child care articles. He is also the convenor of the German experience exchange (between GS-test labs and authorities) for toys, named EK2 AK2.2.
Robert holds a degree in Precision and Micro-Engineering – Medical device engineering of the University of Applied Science in Munich, Germany.
