The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has implemented its final regulations on the approval of non-specified food and food ingredients.
The regulations, which came into effect on September 11, are intended to provide a specific approval process for the following foods and food types:
The regulations on the approval of non-specified food and food ingredients fills a gap in India’s regulatory scheme for food products, under that country’s 2006 Food Safety and Standards Act. The new regulations are also expected to help facilitate the development and introduction of more innovative food products into the Indian market.
