The Republic of Korea has initiated actions to amend its food contact standard, according to a notification filed by that country with the World Trade Organization.
According to the notification, which was originally filed with the WTO in early September, Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is seeking to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) from food utensils, containers and packages expressly intended for use by infants and young children. The proposed amendment would also change the specifications for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), as well as the wording of the term “recycled synthetic resins.”
Comments on the proposed changes can be submitted to the Ministry’s International Cooperation Office via email until 3rd November.
Republic of Korea’s notification to the World Trade Organization announcing its proposed amendments is available here.
