EU adopts drug regulations for foodstuffs of animal origin

The Parliament of the European Union (EU) has recently adopted two amendments to its regulation on pharmacologically active substances in foodstuffs of animal origin, Regulation (EU) No 37/2010.

The first of amendment to No. 37/2010 is contained in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/520. 2018/520 updates the Regulation’s Annex to include “solvent naphtha” as applicable to all animal species, with no minimum residue limit (MRL) required. The second Implementing Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2018/523, further modifies the Annex to include the substance fluazuron, and sets individualize MRLs dependent upon the specific animal species targeted.
