The European Commission has withdrawn the type approval protocol No. 3, which provides the specific requirements for remote-controlled toy helicopters intended for children over 8 years of age.
The new version of standard EN 71-1:2014+A1:20181 came into effect from 28 February this year, covering the remote-controlled helicopters for children between 8 to 12 years old, EC-type examination is now only required for those played by children over 12 years old. Relevant updates have also been made to type approval protocol No. 12 previously. A specific protocol for remote-controlled helicopters for children over 12 years old is considered not necessary and the whole protocol was therefore withdrawn.
