TÜV SÜD – life-cycle partner of the real-estate Industry

At Bosch Connected World 2020 from 19 to 20 February 2020 in Berlin, TÜV SÜD will showcase its comprehensive service offer for smart and sustainable buildings. Like last year, the international service corporation will again be one of the sponsors of the Trusted IoT & Smart Construction Challenge, which is organised within the BCW.

One of TÜV SÜD’s focal topics at BCW 2020 concerns digital twins in the building industry. “We are convinced that digital transformation will revolutionise the entire industry”, emphasises Joachim Birnthaler, CEO of TÜV SÜD’s Real Estate & Infrastructure Division. Digital twin technology for buildings and tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) offer an array of advantages. If used correctly, they not only provide better budget and schedule control and improved risk management during planning and construction, but also the opportunity to use the available data in the operation of the building. “As your partner at the interfaces of this process, we take on an important function”, says Birnthaler. “We approach projects by thinking ahead with the end in mind, thereby integrating topics that need to be considered in the early planning stages.”

In the Connected Buildings session at BCW 2020, the CEO of Division will use TÜV SÜD’s new regional headquarters in Singapore as an example to demonstrate the advantages offered by a digital twin at the individual stages of a building’s life, and explain how digital technologies optimise the use of resources and improve the sustainability of a building.

Lift Manager and digital inspection reports

As the number of sensors installed in buildings and building services systems rises, automated monitoring of building systems can be performed in real time. When TÜV SÜD at BCW 2020 presents its Lift Manager tool, developed together with Bosch IO, the company will showcase the first vendor-independent solution for sensor-aided lift monitoring. “The Lift Manager is based on algorithms that we developed and trained with the help of our specialist lift expertise”, explains Joachim Birnthaler. The Lift Manager supports implementation of a predictive maintenance concept, which reduces operating costs and largely prevents failure or downtime.

As digitisation advances further, TÜV SÜD is also continually improving its existing services and expertise. In the future, for example, reports from on-site inspections of buildings will be recorded digitally, offering building owners significantly greater efficiency and convenience.

As in the past year, TÜV SÜD is once again one of the sponsors of the Trusted IoT & Smart Construction Challenge, whose winners will be announced at the BCW 2020. The challenge brings together leading industrial companies and selected startups to drive digital transformation.
