Modular certification of smart production systems

TÜV SÜD is showcasing solutions for the design and development of Industry 4.0 components and systems and the security of smart production at the 2018 Hannover Messe. Focal topics at the stand of the SmartFactory KL technology initiative include machine safety, functional safety, IT security and sealed cloud solutions. (Hall 8, Stand D18)

The smart factories of the future are built on a modular basis. With standardised interfaces and cutting-edge information technology, they enable the establishment of flexible automated manufacturing reflecting the “plug and produce” principle. As a partner in the SmartFactory KL technology initiative, TÜV SÜD provides support throughout the development and continuous improvement of the world's first manufacturer-independent Industry 4.0 production facility, the result of a joint project by various companies. Together, the partners are working on standardisations based on the Industry 4.0 reference architecture, to ensure that application-specific assessments on real production systems are intelligently supported by their digital twins and can be promptly completed.

Modular certification scheme and control in real time

As part of their engagement in SmartFactoryKL TÜV SÜD's experts are focusing on the development of a modular certification scheme. “The scheme is planned to include a specific approach which takes into account all specific requirements for adaptive, configurable systems“, says Dr Detlev Richter, Global Head of Industrial and Energy Products at TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. All plant manufacturers need to develop a security concept for their equipment and confirm that their equipment is in compliance with legal requirements. “Based on the modular certification scheme, various equipment variants will already be tested in the runup to certification”, explains Pascal Staub-Lang, Head of the Centre of Competence Machine Safety of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. “This ensures that the equipment is automatically certified when a module is replaced and thus continues to be in conformity with the legal requirements and/or the standard.”

Sealed Cloud as an enabler of Industry 4.0

Another topic which TÜV SÜD will address at the 2018 Hannover Messe is Sealed Cloud as an enabler of Industry 4.0. By acquiring a majority holding in Uniscon GmbH in 2017, TÜV SÜD has carved out a position at the centre of digital transformation. Uniscon’s internationally patented Sealed Cloud technology supports 100% secure data processing in the cloud. Not even the platform provider can access the unencrypted data which users save and process on its platform. This USP of the cloud solutions produced by Uniscon has convinced many customers and business partners as well as leading industrial companies and Banks.
