TÜV SÜD, the global testing, inspection, certification and training solutions provider, has today ceremonially broken the ground on its new Singapore-based regional hub, marking the company’s first major real estate investment outside of their German headquarters. The 600 employees based in Singapore, including TÜV SÜD PSB and TÜV SÜD Digital Service Centre of Excellence (CoE), will relocate to this facility in 2020.
The new S$100 million integrated office and lab facility will span 18,900 square metres at the International Business Park (IBP) within the future Jurong Lake District, a commercial hub set to become Singapore’s second Central Business District. The new facility will utilise latest technologies to ensure energy efficiency and sustainability according to the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) green mark platinum standard. Dedicated to enhancing employee engagement, productivity and wellbeing, the building will also include a gym offering fitness programmes, lush green working spaces and rooftop gardens, as well as connectivity to the Jurong Park Connector.
Today’s groundbreaking was graced by Mr. Chng Kai Fong, Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Dr. Ulrich Sante, German Ambassador to Singapore and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management at TÜV SÜD.
Commenting at the groundbreaking, Ishan Palit, Member of the Board of Management at TÜV SÜD, said: “Our decision to further invest in Singapore demonstrates our confidence in this market and its aspirations for the future. Singapore is constantly innovating, and is always prepared to test new technologies and solutions to propel its Smart Nation vision. In that respect, we share a lot of values – and it’s our hope that this flagship facility will help us to further support businesses and industries across Singapore and globally in their growth ambitions.”
Mr. Chng Kai Fong, Managing Director at EDB said, “TÜV SÜD’s new integrated office and lab facility is further testament to the company’s long-term commitment to Singapore, following the recent opening of their Digital Services Centre of Excellence here. EDB looks forward to deepening the partnership with TÜV SÜD as we seek to enhance Singapore’s position as a global business and innovation centre.”
TÜV SÜD has launched a Digital Service CoE in 2016 with the commitment to invest S$40 million into the development of technologies and talent in support of the Smart Nation Vision. To date, the company has been actively involved in pilot projects in autonomous driving through the Centre of Excellence for Testing & Research of Autonomous Vehicles (CETRAN), advanced manufacturing through the EDB’s Singapore’s Smart Industry Readiness Index (SSIRI); as well as the inauguration of a Smart Elderly Care @ Home Centre. TÜV SÜD also operates in Singapore as TÜV SÜD PSB – a household name synonymous with safety and quality. Its existing lab facility in Science Park One has accompanied Singapore’s productivity and standards transformation over the last three decades.
