What does the standard OHSAS 18001 cover?
The standard OHSAS 18001 defines the requirements for a certifiable occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system of an organisation. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
- The organisation has established a suitable occupational health and safety management system, including mechanisms for organising occupational health and safety in the company, assessment of hazards and risks in occupational health and safety, self-assessment of occupational health and safety performance, identification and control of preventive and corrective action in occupational health and safety, and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety services.
- The organisation analyses and considers the occupational health and safety requirements of its customers and the requirements of the applicable codes and standards.
- The certified organisation defines the processes, roles and responsibilities required to ensure occupational health and safety, and ensures regular surveillance to meet the specific requirements of the standard, legal requirements, and requirements of the German Institutions for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention, as well as customer- and industry-specific occupational health and safety requirements.
