Digital Transformation

How can we harness its potential while minimising the risks?

Ushering in the fourth technological revolution

Homes, phones, factories, energy grids – it seems that everything has the potential to be ‘smart’. As we stand at the threshold of the fourth technological revolution, digital transformation is enabling components, machines and systems to communicate with one another autonomously.

"Our goal is to help companies integrate the latest technologies into their businesses while ensuring functional safety, interoperability and minimizing IT security risks."

Digital Transformation

This is radically changing the way we live and work. Home security and electric vehicles are increasingly a part of our lives. In the factory, predictive maintenance means that equipment is able to monitor and replace its own faulty parts. In some cases, manufacturing times have reduced from days to mere hours.

But the potential of digital transformation will only be fully realised if people have confidence in new technologies. TÜV SÜD is uniquely positioned to accomplish this. We are involved with pilot projects across industry sectors such as Automotive, Energy and Manufacturing. Our goal is to help companies integrate the latest technologies into their businesses while ensuring functional safety, interoperability and minimizing IT security risks. Our security testing, risk assessment and certification services ensure trust in the transformative power of digital technologies. To us, the future is already here.

Digital transformation case studies

Digital Transformation: Infrastructure security
Infrastructure security: In an eight-month honeynet project, TÜV SÜD simulated the critical infrastructure of a municipal waterworks network. Our IT Security experts detected and analysed a total of 60,000 unauthorised access incidents and attacks from over 150 countries. Find out more.

Digital Transformation: Realising Industrie 4.0 transformation
Realising Industrie 4.0 transformation: To drive industry-wide transformation, we developed the Smart Industry Readiness Index with Singapore Economic Development Board. The Index evaluates current state of manufacturing facilities, offering a structured and holistic approach to start, sustain and scale transformation efforts. Find out more.

Digital Transformation: Secure online transactions
Secure online transactions: TÜV SÜD’s [email protected] Shopping Certification has given Expedia a clear advantage in the competitive online travel category. In addition to closing the ‘trust gap’ between Expedia and its customers, the [email protected] Shopping Certification process provides a data security framework for Expedia websites worldwide. Find out more.

Smart manufacturing
Smart manufacturing: TÜV SÜD is part of a SmartFactoryKL initiative to develop new concepts, standards and solutions for the intelligent factory of the future. We have launched a modular certification scheme for flexible plant structures to facilitate set-up and operation of smart production facilities.

  • Committing to cyber security via the Charter of Trust

    Digital Transformation Charter of Trust

We have signed the Charter of Trust - a global cyber security alliance by Siemens and 15 leading organisations which aims to build trust in digital technologies. We will contribute by protecting critical systems and sensitive data, helping our customers ensure their business continuity. Learn more here.

  • Developing standards for BIM

    Digital Transformation BIM

We are helping to develop a public German Building Information Modelling (BIM) Standard for high-rise to empower design, construction and operation of more than 31,000 assets. Contributing through BIM advisory, we are developing use cases, best practices for processes and templates. Find out more about our BIM services here

  • Realising Industrie 4.0 transformation

    Digital Transformation i4.0

To drive industry-wide transformation, we developed the Smart Industry Readiness Index with the Singapore Economic Development Board which was rolled out in countries in Asia, Europe and US. Together with the partners, we have launched a 'Prioritisation Matrix', a computational tool for identifying priority digital initiatives. Read more about the case study here.

  • Establishing safety of AI-based systems

    Digital Transformation Genesis

Working with the German Research Centre for AI (DFKI), we are developing an open platform 'openGenesis' to certify AI-based systems used in autonomous driving. A 'roadworthiness test' will be developed to validate safety of the underlying algorithms. Read more about the case study here.
