TÜV SÜD is among the first testing organizations authorized to certify the occupational health and noise protection of construction machinery and garden equipment for the UK market. With Brexit, the requirements for placing on the market in England, Scotland and Wales are changing. Now a UKCA marking is mandatory instead of the previous CE marking.
As of January 1, 2023, only products with UKCA marking (UKCA = UK Conformity Assessed) can be placed on the market in the UK. This also applies to products that already have a CE marking. Only a few products are excluded for which a new deadline extension has been granted. The UK Accreditation Service has approved TÜV SÜD as one of the first Approved Bodies to offer UKCA certification for construction machinery and garden equipment. Previous legislation on occupational safety and noise protection, such as the Outdoor Directive 2000 /14/EC, is no longer valid.
In the future equipment and machinery used outdoors must be certified in accordance with the Noise Emission in the Environment by Equipment for Use Outdoors Regulations 2001. For example, construction vehicles in the UK are subject to special noise regulations. TÜV SÜD supports manufacturers and distributors with testing services, conformity assessments and recertifications. “Not only do we carry out acoustic investigations, reconcile limit values and determine environmentally harmful noise emissions, but we also know the requirements on site from many years of practical experience”, says Marc Goetzke, graduate engineer for sound and vibration measurements at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service.
