TÜV SÜD offers certification of data centres based on the EN 50600 standard. This European standard adopts an integrated approach that covers all aspects of data-centre facilities and infrastructures. Data centres are an integral part of our modern information society. As developments such as Industry 4.0 and Highly Automated Driving (HAD) progress, demand for safe and available data centres will continue to rise in the future. At the same time, planners, installers and operators must ensure that structural and technical infrastructure fulfils increasingly complex requirements. “Certification according to EN 50600 offers various advantages”, says Thomas Grüschow, Data Centre Specialist at TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. The standard governs all aspects of physical facilities, considers infrastructure design and planning as well as operational management, and also creates many points of reference to other standards and management standards such as ISO 27001. “The EN 50600 is the standard for the data centres of the future”, emphasises Grüschow. “It provides clarity and transparency on the safety, security and availability of data centres and thus also establishes a basis of trust for both operators and users.”
In spite of the high requirements, the EN 50600 standard offers critical advantages to planners, decision-makers and operators. The complete infrastructure can be mapped in a single certificate, and the technical requirements can be aligned to the needs at the specific site and of the specific business within the scope of specialist planning. This enables the dedicated and cost-optimised planning of projects. TÜV SÜD has been offering data-centre certification according to EN 50600 since 2015. “With extensive experience and the necessary background knowledge, we know how to best implement the EN 50600 standard in conjunction with other requirements”, explains Thomas Grüschow. The specialist is convinced that the standard will prevail in a market characterised by extremely dynamic growth.
