TÜV SÜD at Automatica 2018

Robots have become indispensable in industrial processes. TÜV SÜD's stand at the Automatica trade fair, held from 19 to 22 June 2018, will focus on topics including robotics. At Stand 205 in Hall A4, TÜV SÜD's experts will present services that smooth the path to global markets for manufacturers and owners of robots, collaborative robots (human-robot collaboration, HRC) and automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems.

Dr Detlev RichterT
he number of possible applications for robots is growing steadily. As robots become increasingly mobile, they are moving into areas which have previously been reserved for humans only. Important drivers in this development are the new generation of lightweight robots, which are more cost-effective than conventional industrial robots and can work alongside people without a protective cage (also referred to as COBOTS). This close human-robot collaboration (HRC) calls for strict safety requirements and application-specific test plans.

At the trade fair, TÜV SÜD will demonstrate ways in which its test services support fast and efficient international market access in an environment characterised by a dynamically changing mix of products and ever shorter production cycles. TÜV SÜD provides testing and certification of stationary, collaborative and mobile robots as well as automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems for all types of applications for the international market.

Testing and certification services cover mechanical, electrical and functional safety as well as the scope of testing for typical applications in the manufacturing, semi-conductor and logistics industries as well as industrial production.

TÜV SÜD also provides field labelling for the US, Canadian and EU markets and assists with on-time bringing into service of new or expanded production equipment. As the only certification body outside the US to hold authorisation under the NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) programme, TÜV SÜD can issue certificates for the US market and thus provide manufacturers with fast and reliable market access. Not only are TÜV SÜD experts familiar with the various regulatory requirements for electrical safety, explosion protection, functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and radio technologies; they can also interpret these regulations and standards, and test and inspect products in accordance with them.

Interested parties will have the opportunity to meet TÜV SÜD's experts at the trade-fair stand and discuss how requirements regarding the safety, security and interoperability of smart industrial equipment are to be derived from the applicable EU Directives and combined with Industry 4.0 requirements. On Friday 22 June 2018, Dr Detlev Richter, TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH will present a talk from 11:40 to 12:00 am in Hall B4, Stand 216 on the subject: Safe, secure and reliable connected modular industrial equipment needs dynamic safety and security architecture 4.0”. The lecture is in German.
