Singapore’s AVA releases update guide to food labelling

Singapore’s Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) has published an updated version of its Guide to Food Labelling and Advertisements.

Published in 2016, the Guide is intended to provide food importers, manufacturers and retailers with details about the food regulations and labelling requirements applicable in Singapore, as well as permissible claims for labels and advertisements for food and food products sold in Singapore. It includes a checklist to assist in the preparation of food labels and advertisements that are compliant with food labelling requirements applicable in Singapore.

Entities which fail to comply with the AVA’s regulations under Singapore’s Sale of Food Act can be subject to a fine of up to SGD 5000 for a first offence. For a second offence, the maximum fine is SGD 10,000, imprisonment for a term of not more than three months, or both.
