China regulators to revise 300 food safety standards

Food safety regulators in China have announced plans to revise hundreds of separate food standards by 2020 in an effort to reduce the number of food safety issues in that country.
According to a recent article posted on the Shanghai Daily website, more than 1 million cases concerning food safety were identified in China during the period from 2013 through 2015. As part of its effort to implement the current five year national safety plan for food and drug safety issued by China’s State Council, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) says that it will undertake the revision of not less than 300 national food safety standards between now and 2020.

In addition, the CFDA is expected to step up supervision of food supply chains and production, emphasising better source control and strong risk prevention practices.

The test of the Shanghai Daily article on the CFDA’s plans to revise existing food standards is available here.
