APRIL 2021 - ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS, HARDLINES, SOFTLINES, TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
The European Commission (EC) updates1 one of the testing methods for nickel release as EN 12742:2020 in April 2021. This is a test method for the simulation of accelerated wear and corrosion for the detection of nickel release from coated items. According to REACH Annex XVII entry 27, the standards published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) should be used to demonstrate compliance with nickel release.
Previously, the EC updated the references of nickel release via the Commission Communication of the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The last update2 was published in 2017. To simplify the process, the EC decided to publish such information via updating the Commission websites dealing with REACH restrictions. Table 1 shows the updated standard references for nickel release.
