Jordan: New Telecommunications Technical Rules and Specifications for terminal equipment

On 10 February 2021, the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Commission published the technical rules, standards, and specifications for telecommunications and terminal equipment. These standards and specifications are mandatory and has to be complied with for products subjected to a type approval and for telecommunications equipment placed on the Jordan market. The technical rules cover areas such as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), radio frequency, environment, public health and safety, and restrictions on the use of hazardous substances (RoHS) for one hundred and forty types of devices.

The specifications are for devices using the following technologies: 

• 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies,
• WLAN technology, 
• RFID technology, 
• PSTN technology,
• short-range devices (SRD),
• Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

According to Article 5C of Decision No. 9-1/2020 on Type Approvals for Wired and Wireless Telecommunication Equipment, any client who wishes to get a type approval has to provide the Commission with technical test reports issued by an accredited test lab. The test report should include the areas of radio frequency, EMC, Safety, and SAR evaluation, which can prove the equipment complies with the technical rules, standards, and specifications for telecommunications and terminal equipment.
