Korea KATS publishes Notification No 2018 194 and 2018 195

On 29 June 2018, KATS (Korean Agency for Technology and Standards) has enacted Notification No. 2018-194¹ and 2018-195² for prescription of safety standards for consumer products respectively subject to Article 23 (3) and Article 28 of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act^3.

Notification No. 2018-194 applies for the following 15 products subject to Supplier’s assurance of conformity pursuant to Article 23 (3). Respective safety standards are in the Annex of the Notification.

• Polyvinyl chloride pipes (including flexible polyvinyl chloride hoses)
• Water tanks
• Furniture (limited to height 762 mm or more storage units / filing cabinets)
• Roller skate
• Roller shoes
• Motor boards
• Internal corded window blinds
• Eyelid tape
• Heated eyelash curler
• Portable jacks for automobiles
• False eyelashes
• Shopping trolleys
• Portable ladders
• Inline roller skates
• Kickboard

Notification No. 2018-195 applies for the following 23 products subject to compliance to safety standard pursuant to Article 28. Respective safety standards are in the Annex of the Notification.

• Textile products
• Carpets
• Leather goods
• Beauty soap
• Furniture (excluding storage units / filing cabinets height 762 mm or more)
• Clothes horse
• Sunglasses
• Glass frames
• Tents
• Shoes for the elderly
• Sticks for the elderly
• Wheeled chair tables for the elderly
• Bath chair for the elderly
• Location tracking device for the elderly
• Swimming goggles
• High-visibility jackets
• Stainless scrubber
• White cane
• Bed mattresses 
• Umbrella and parasol
• Personal portable alarms
• Metal jewelry in contact with skin
• Wallpapers and paper floor coverings

Both notifications take effect on 1 July 2018.
