Certification mark for tow ropes

certification mark for tow ropes

SCOPE:

Tow rope assemblies for towing motor vehicles having a maximum gross mass of 2 tonnes.

This voluntary TÜV SÜD certification mark is not intended for the German market.

BASIS OF CERTIFICATION (REQUIREMENTS):

BS AU 187:2000

The purpose of this standard is to establish the minimum requirements for tow rope assemblies (i.e. the ropes and the fittings, if any) which may be used for towing passenger cars and light vans in an emergency (e.g. after a breakdown).

The strength of the assembly is specified by a requirement for resistance to a snatch load to ensure that the assembly will survive specified take-up shocks.

The materials to be used are not specified as it is considered that these should be left to the discretion of the manufacturer, but requirements relating to the shape and size are included to take account of ISO 5422, Road vehicles - Anchorages for towing ropes, cables or bars, prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 22, Road vehicles, of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.

Not for German Market

This voluntary TÜV SÜD certification mark is not intended for the German market.

Production Monitored

Periodic surveillance of the manufacture of a product constitutes the basic premise for certification which includes the award of a certification mark. Certification always requires product testing and regular factory inspections.

As a third-party expert organisation, TÜV SÜD verifies that the manufacturer is able to maintain consistent quality in line with the requirements throughout high-volume production and has established the necessary quality system, including incoming goods inspections, lists of materials and final product check.

In addition, calibration of the necessary measuring and monitoring equipment must be ensured. Surveillance and/or monitoring covers the testing of safety-critical components and other materials used. If unauthorised changes are made to the product, the certificate will be withdrawn and the TÜV SÜD certification mark may no longer be used.

Safety Tested

The voluntary certification mark with the statement “Safety tested” is issued for products, indicating that the product was tested and certified by the independent third-party organisation of TÜV SÜD Product Service for conformity with the essential technical safety requirements.
