TÜV SÜD: Boosting efficiency in vehicle development

TÜV SÜD will be present at the Automotive Testing Expo, held at Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre from 5–7 June, to offer a broad range of services for vehicle development. The service provider will occupy Stand 8266 in Hall 8 at the trade show, focusing on topics including non-destructive component testing, electromagnetic compatibility and buzz, squeak and rattle (BSR) testing.

“Automotive manufacturers face increasingly fast-paced development times for new vehicle models while striving to cut costs. This is where our services for the vehicle development industry come in”, says Karl Meier, Business Unit Manager Transportation at TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH. At the Automotive Testing Expo trade show in Stuttgart, TÜV SÜD’s experts will present the company’s extensive array of services for OEMs. One example is dynamic component testing or DYCOT. In this process, components such as seats, safety belts and airbags undergo non-destructive testing in line with globally applicable standards at locations including TÜV SÜD’s own laboratory in Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic). Meier explains, “DYCOT is a cost-efficient method and represents a useful alternative to crash testing for vehicle and system component manufacturers. It is just one example of how TÜV SÜD serves as an independent partner to the industry, providing support right from the development phase of a vehicle.”

Electronic safety and security

As the digital revolution progresses, cars, too, are becoming smarter. In this context, electronic tests have an immensely important role to play in vehicle development, with crucial areas including electronic and electromagnetic safety and network security. In these fields, the experts at TÜV SÜD offer support in the form of wide-ranging tests spanning environmental testing (ENV) of electronic components against environmentally relevant parameters such as temperature, vibration and humidity using special test rigs; testing for network components; and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing to ensure flawless functioning of electronic components even in the presence of radio interference.

A quieter ride is a comfortable ride

Squeaks, rattles and other disturbing noises in a vehicle should be eliminated in the development phase, and by the production stage at the very latest. TÜV SÜD’s state-of-the-art testing equipment includes 4-Poster devices with servo electric actuator (SEA) technology, which operate in all ambient temperatures and environmental conditions to perform buzz, squeak and rattle (BSR) testing on prototypes and end-of-line products as well as investigating the durability of vehicles in endurance tests.

Experts from TÜV SÜD, accompanied by the service provider’s partner, ARRK Engineering, will be present at Automotive Testing Expo at Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre, from 5–7 June. At Stand 8266 in Hall 8, representatives of the two companies will be available to answer all enquires related to vehicle and component testing.
