Machinery Safety Compliance

Providing protection of personnel, equipment and operations

In order to sell equipment within the European (EU) market, compliance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EU is a must. The directive was designed to ensure a level of safety in machinery and equipment placed on the market and covers a wide range of equipment including agricultural equipment, motor vehicles, electronic products, and more.

Why is machinery safety compliance right for my business?

Various machinery safety directives affect manufacturers seeking to sell equipment throughout the world. Several of these include:

Not only should businesses concern themselves with compliance, these directives help ensure safety for personnel, equipment, and business functions, and provides a standard for continued maintenance and personnel safety training.

How can TÜV SÜD assist you with machinery safety compliance?

TÜV SÜD offers machinery safety consultancy services that cover comprehensive Machinery Risk Assessments. As part of the service we can provide advice and assistance with the following:

PUWER or the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations require users of work equipment to carry out regular risk assessments which are documented and kept on file. The regulations require that all provided work equipment is suitable for its intended task and can be used without putting persons at risk. Laidler Associates can offer comprehensive machinery assessments against the requirements of the Provision of Use and Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) as well as a variety of training seminars on site or at the venue of your choice.

Comprehensive CE Marking service against the requirements of the Machinery Directive which can be tailored to individual company requirements. As part of our Machinery Directive services, our expert engineers can give you advice and assistance covering:

  • Comprehensive risk assessments against the needs of the Essential Healthy and Safety Requirements within the Machinery Directive
  • Cross referencing risk assessments with all applicable EN Standards for presumed compliance once a control measure has been implemented
  • Compilation of the machine’s Technical Construction File
  • Raising of a Declaration of Conformity or Declaration of Incorporation
  • Testing methods and procedures
  • Holding the Technical Construction File for both EU and non-EU businesses

For both PUWER and CE Marking, the following applies:

  • Risk Assessments will be carried out in accordance with relevant national requirements
  • The Report will address each of the individual machines, showing conformity or highlighting non-conformities
  • If there are any areas of concern or recommendations of control methods suggested, relevant Standards will be used for the correct control measure
  • The risk assessment report will be produced on the TÜV SÜD Risk Management software (mCom Machinery Compliance Software)
    • A copy of the software can also be provided along with the database
