Expert Roundtable with Karen Grantham: How the TÜV SÜD Mark Helps Manufacturers Gain a Cutting Edge


Jasmine Martirossian, Vice President of Marketing at TÜV SÜD America sat down with industry veteran Karen Grantham, who leads Sales for our Commercial and Consumer  Product Testing Division at TÜV SÜD America, to discuss the value of TÜV SÜD Mark and how it can help manufacturers gain a cutting edge.

Q:  Karen, you’re very passionate when you speak of TÜV SÜD and the TÜV SÜD Mark. Given that you have over two decades of experience in the Testing, Inspection, and Certification industry, what has kept you excited and committed to your work?

A:  Yes, it is hard to believe that I’ve been in this industry for nearly 25 years. I happened into the field by accident initially and didn’t know much about it but have come to love what I do.

This industry is in constant motion, always evolving and presenting new challenges. This dynamic environment is very attractive. Most of all, I fell in love with what we do as it has been feeding my soul in the sense that I am helping people achieve their goal, I am helping them bring products safely to Market. I have an immense sense of pride associated with the TÜV SÜD Mark.

Q:  What is so special about the TÜV SÜD Mark that makes you so proud, Karen?

A:  You know, I am a consumer just like the next person.  As a consumer, you don’t often think about product safety and certification as you’re considering a purchase.  But there is a peace of mind that is achieved through the efforts that we carry out in the background in the TIC industry.

Having started out in this industry at competing organizations, and given the insights I have gained since working at TÜV SÜD, I believe that the TÜV SÜD Mark confers a particular honor when associated with a product. TÜV SÜD has its origins in Germany, and with it comes the culture of intense focus on quality, consistency, diligence that is reflected in the TÜV SÜD Mark.

Q:  Where do you see the power of the TÜV SÜD Mark for manufacturers? And why would a manufacturer want to use the TÜV SÜD Mark?

A:  The TÜV SÜD Mark represents the highest level of quality and assurance. It’s an electrical safety Mark that assures that the product has met all applicable regulatory safety standards.

It’s an advantage for manufacturers in that it tells their customers that they have done exceptional due diligence, and that their product is meeting/exceeding all safety and quality standards.

The TÜV SÜD Mark has global reach as it is broadly recognized around the world. It represents the consistency and quality that is the hallmark of our German roots.  In Germany, you see the TÜV SÜD Mark everywhere. I doubt you can spend even five minutes in public settings without seeing the TÜV SÜD Mark.  It’s inside elevators, on the sides of escalators, on consumer products. 

The TÜV SÜD Mark confers special distinction that can help our customers. By featuring the TÜV SÜD Mark on their products and associated packaging, the manufacturers can, in turn, market their products more effectively. The presence of the TÜV SÜD Mark inspires greater confidence among partners and end users communicating the message that the product manufacturer has taken the right steps and practiced due diligence to meet safety standards. And our strong engineering roots further reinforce that message.
