USA: Proposition 65 new warning translations published

May, 2017

The California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has recently adopted the new warning regulations under Proposition 651 that require business to provide more details to consumers. The new requirements take effective on 30 August 2018. Until then, businesses may use either the old warnings or the new ones. If consumer information for a consumer product or signage for a facility is provided in a language other than English, the warnings must be also provided in that language in addition to English.

To assist businesses transitioning to the new warnings regulations, OEHHA provided on its website2 examples translations of new warnings on 19 April 2017. The warning contents are given in different languages such as Chinese, French, Spanish and Vietnamese. Businesses may consult with translators and legal counsels regarding the accuracy and applicability of translated warning content for a specific exposure.
