Employee Spotlight: Sean Clifford

#FutureInYourHands

Sean CliffordSean Clifford

account executive and North america lighting manager at TÜV SÜD America

#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.

Can you discuss your role within TÜV SÜD?
I am in two positions currently. I’m the Account Executive for the Alpharetta and Raleigh regions and I’m also the North America Lighting Manager. I work on generating new business while maintaining the satisfaction of our current business. Additionally, I help with marketing by bringing brand recognition to TÜV SÜD’s NRTL Mark.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
For me, the best part of the job is seeing a client bring a product to market at a projected delivery date and enabling their success. It’s very rewarding when people thank us for the job we do, so they can successfully sell their product.

How have you had to adjust your responsibilities during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Although COVID-19 has certainly had an effect on many different jobs and businesses, I’ve found that I have been able to contribute more by taking on additional responsibilities, so I’ve been wearing a few hats while we go through this pandemic.

How do you think the future of the industry will be impacted by current events?
I’m hopeful in the future we will have full recovery. In fact, I think the industry will bounce back faster than expected, as we’re starting to see an influx of new requests coming from Product Development, especially with products that align with the medical industry and UV lighting. So, in the future, I believe we’ll see sustained growth and a larger market share within our company.

Is there an engineering-related innovation that you find fascinating?
From the lighting side, I think horticultural lighting is fascinating. It’s interesting to learn about what we can do with LEDs and manipulating wavelengths to grow plants a certain way and give them a specific color, as well as program them to obtain certain qualities that they would not normally receive from natural sunlight.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I’ve recently been volunteering as a youth soccer coach running a recreational soccer camp for a couple hours every night. It works as a way to make-up to the children who missed their season in the Spring. Additionally, I’m licensed as a professional soccer coach for the youth Academy and Select programs. I’m also a big fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots.
