#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.
Can you describe your role within the company?
I am the Global Manager of the Property Valuation service offered by Global Risk Consultants (GRC). The process began as property valuations for insurance purposes. The practice that I manage does real and personal property valuations for insurance purposes. I have been with TUV SUD for just over 3 years.
How did you choose this career path?
I have been in the business for more than 35 years, working for several different carriers. My degree is in Civil Engineering, so I entered the industry from a construction and building cost perspective. I’ve expanded my duties and responsibilities throughout my career, but have ultimately stuck with the same career path and I really enjoy the work that I do.
What do you enjoy most about your job and working at TÜV SÜD?
I enjoy leading the practice and taking advantage of various opportunities. That includes connecting with customers on new projects. I think even the challenging aspects of the job can also be enjoyable, like figuring out what new work products to offer, as well as other factors that go into managing the property valuation practice.
Are there challenges you've faced in your career that have taught you important lessons?
Lessons are always learned from the assignments you didn’t get. It’s important to recognize how something could have been done better and how you can work to consistently improve. Knowing how to ask the right questions in order to learn is extremely valuable. Overcoming obstacles leads to achieving goals.
What do you think the industry will look like 20 years from now?
I believe we’ll see automation continue to play a major part in the property valuation business. The industry in general is taking advantage of sampling techniques due to bigger and better databases. Hopefully by then, the professionalism and expertise of the field appraiser will be even more advanced than now. I think the transition towards automation will also benefit the customer and make the process easier for them.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I really enjoy watching sports. I also love to play golf and spend time with my family.
