Employee Spotlight: JR Long

#FutureInYourHands

Joseph Long, Account Executive - Medical Devices & Healthcare Services at TÜV SÜD AmericaJ.R. Long

Account Executive – Healthcare & Medical Device Services (MHS) at TÜV SÜD America

#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.

Can you describe your role within TÜV SÜD?
As an Account Executive, my focus is to expand the Healthcare and Medical Device Services (MHS) business line by working with existing clients, as well as developing new business opportunities. Continually sourcing new business is imperative to our success, and a measure of fortitude is necessary here.

What drew you to a career with TÜV SÜD?
TÜV SÜD has a passion for technology and innovation, and how these elements impact society. I am amazed by the range of services that TÜV SÜD offers that enable organizations to compete in a global economy. TÜV SÜD truly is a one-stop provider of testing, inspection, and certification services.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy building business and developing long-term relationships with clients. There are new and unique requests presented to us each day as new products are developed by manufacturers utilizing ever-increasingly complex technology.

What is your driving mission in this role?
My driving mission is simply to have a positive impact on product safety. With our MHS team, everything we encounter directly impacts patients' lives.

Are there any challenges that you've faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
Delivering as confirmed, responsiveness and consistency are key. Timelines are imperative to clients, and we are certain that we meet those designated timelines to afford our clients passage to the market according to their schedule. At TÜV SÜD, we have an exceptional record of consistently delivering on this aspect. And this is one of the most important characteristics of the compliance puzzle. Another lesson I have learned is to never discuss standards at a cocktail party…

What do you think the industry will look like 20 years from now?
AI will lead the next Industrial Revolution; fourth generation AI (Artificial Intuition) already exists. AI technology will be used to directly develop new standards. ISO/IEC 30145-3, a standard for smart cities, will create a new opportunity in compliance. The IEEE association is piloting a new working group to create new standards that will impact news trustworthiness (P7011). This as well will become a new business stream for compliance organizations.

When not working, how do you enjoy your spare time?
I enjoy family time, traveling, volunteering and home improvement (assembly without reading the instructions). Also, I am an avid reader, investor and backgammon player.
