Employee Spotlight: Gary Richards

#FutureInYourHands

Gary Richardsgary richards

account executive at TÜV SÜD America

#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.

Can you discuss your role within TÜV SÜD and share your daily responsibilities?
I am an Account Executive for TÜV SÜD working in the Product Safety (PS) division. I am responsible for selling our various testing services, which includes radio frequency and wireless testing, as well as safety testing and EMC. I also promote field evaluation and machinery testing services for the PS group and primarily collaborate with the Tampa, FL lab, where I’m based, as well as with a few other labs located in the South East.

What drew you to this career and working with TÜV SÜD?
I joined TÜV SÜD as an Account Executive over 12 years ago and have always been consistently inspired by the fact that what we do is necessary and keeps people safe. I enjoy working for a company that puts people first and actively works to improve customer relationships by providing top-tier services. I also genuinely enjoy contributing to a company that is dedicated to promoting safety all over the world.

You mentioned you’ve been in this role for 12 years. What do you enjoy most about your it?
I really enjoy the fact that I get to see a lot of new technologies and products before they’re released to the public and available for consumers. So, I like that I’m still seeing and learning about new things every day. However, helping my customers get their products to market in a fast and safe way is the most rewarding part of my career.

How have you had to adjust your work due to the COVID-19 quarantine?
Traditionally, my job responsibilities involve going on-site to see customers and spend time at their location in order to understand how to best assess their needs. Now, my work has shifted from in-person meetings to phone and video calls. But, a lot of our engineers have still been still been able to conduct their work in the lab and in the field. Not a lot has changed for me personally, so the transition to working remotely has been relatively easy.

What important lessons have you learned over the course of your career with TÜV SÜD?
I’ve learned a lot over the course of my career. In general, being a sales professional at TÜV SÜD has taught me a great amount about business. I’ve also learned a lot about the manufacturing industry and the many facets it’s comprised of, as well as how regulatory compliance contributes to the industry. Additionally, I’ve learned about the many different services that we offer and how those services can be aligned and modified to best fit customers’ needs.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I spend most of my time hanging out with my family. My wife, our two daughters and I enjoy being outdoors. We love going to the beach, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
