ABOUT THE COURSE

This paid course will focus on how to design products for Additive Manufacturing (AM). 

Additive manufacturing enables engineers and designers to break new ground in product development. However, most companies do not yet have sufficient experience in this field: Which design rules must a 3D printed product have? How can the set requirements be met and the part functionality be assured? When is post processing needed and how should the post processing steps be implemented in AM? These questions pose great challenges to the users of 3D printing.

  • New design possibilities with AM
  • General overview of the design of AM-components and the special features compared to conventional production
  • Approval and risk assessment (Material approval, design verification, process testing, component approval)
  • Approval of AM components, using examples from the medical technology, aviation and automotive sectors
  • Innovative, interactive learning formats for better internalization of learned content

Participants will learn through lectures, case studies, group exercises, discussions and workshop elements.

This course is specially designed for employees of companies that are active in AM series production, want to scale their production or serve regulated markets (e.g. medical technology). 

Prerequisite: Basic understanding of AM construction and design. It is recommended to attend the Design basics for AM training in conjunction with this training.
