White paper
The growing shift to renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic systems and wind turbines has introduced new challenges for operators of thermal power stations. Because the rate at which energy generated
by renewable sources is not constant, conventional power plant operations serve as the primary backup for required energy generation capacity. But the wide variation in the demand rate for energy from these essential backup sources also places additional stresses on critical plant components, including steam generators and piping. As such, it has become increasingly difficult to accurately assess the expected life of these critical components and to take pre-emptive steps to repair or replace them ahead of unanticipated failures.
In this white paper, we’ll discuss the new challenges in the monitoring of premature fatigue in essential power plant components, as well as some of the solutions that are emerging to combat the problem.
