The age of e-commerce has been on trend since 2010 and consumers have shifted from brick & mortar retail to online retail. Never ever has it been so convenient for consumers to browse, select and buy products at low prices. But the same convenience and lower cost also led to an increment “return and refund” of selected products. Due to the missing on sight experience and consultation, the expectations are often not met. It comes to no surprise that customer experience is one of the highest impact in all areas of your business and its growing its importance in recent years.
One of the key expectations is the performance of usability of a product. Usability of products is of great importance to user experience.
In order to capture market trends and demands, the expectations to the performance of products has to be a top consideration through usability, desirability, and sustainability in the interaction with the product in route to successful customer experience strategy.
Usability is the extent to which a product can be used by specific group users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use. Through research, data collection and analysis, the main and secondary features and functions can be identified and ranked for specific consumer products based on conducted performance benchmarks or products of the same type. A series of general rating criteria is used to ensure both objective (measurable) and subjective (perceivable) feedback are met. Usability of adds to the aspect of safety for different product categories, in that it is a quality assessment aiming at meeting the expectations of customers.
With the presence of benchmarking and rating of products based on their quality and performance, this helps manufacturers ensure that there's a higher rate of acceptance and satisfaction from customers. This also give customers the assurance that the product will perform at a standard that is acceptable. By ensuring the quality and performance of the products, manufacturers can reduce the probability of product returns and reduce the associated cost with product returns.
