The adoption of smart home technology is happening at a rapid pace. The devices leading the charge are home gateways, smart speakers, home monitoring devices, smart lights, and connected thermostats. It was reported that more than 2 billion devices will be deployed by 2023 and with the increasing trend of people working from home, access to office network were through the same home network will rise as well. There were also reports of increasing cyber breaching in recent weeks as the majority are working from home due to social distancing policy implemented across the world. As such, every connected network is only as secured as its least secured device on the system.
Manufacturers putting connected products into the market will need to ensure that their products are in compliance to the applicable requirements. This has gone beyond the tradition electrical safety and radio frequency requirements but also cybersecurity. It is important that product manufacturers and their supplier understand the threats to their product when connected and the risk posed by an unsecured product to the network. It is also important that they ensure that their products are inherently secured and comply to the respective regulation applicable to the markets that they will be launched in.
Products need to be inherently safe and secure when place onto the market. Understanding the various threats, protection strategies and regulations will help you mitigate the risks during your product design, reduce time-to-market and save cost.
To help you understand the key concepts, TÜV SÜD’s expert will speak in detail about all the significant elements related to cybersecurity risks of IoT and the emerging EU and the US regulations for such products.
