Safety of amusement parks and rides

Under the banner of “Safety for Amusement Parks and Rides”, TÜV SÜD will showcase its services at the European Attraction Show (EAS) in Paris from 17 to 19 September 2019. The international service provider's presence at the trade fair will focus on retrofit measures for existing amusement rides according to EN 13814 and the safety of amusement and water parks (Pavilion 1, Stand 2437).

achterbahn-tsAmusement parks and rides must undergo initial inspection and regular periodic inspections to assess their state of repair and operational safety according to both national and international regulations. Inspections are carried out according to the EN 13814 European standard or the ISO 17842 international standard, which covers certification of individual rides as well as entire parks and park-wide interactions and processes. TÜV SÜD will also inform EAS visitors about its “Retrofit EN 13814/17842” concept, which offers ride managers support in the retrofitting of existing amusement rides based on the requirements of the EN 13814 standard.

Quality, safety and sustainability
TÜV SÜD is one of the globally leading suppliers of quality, safety and sustainability solutions for amusement rides and parks, performing around 2,000 inspections per year in countries including Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Spain as well as the Middle East, Hong Kong, the USA and Canada. The company provides services to ride manufacturers and managers along the entire production chain, from consultancy during purchasing or project design to review of technical documentation, quality assurance during production, initial approval and periodic inspection of the ride. “Our services contribute significantly to the safety of water and amusement parks worldwide”, says Stefan Kasper, Department Manager Amusement Rides at TÜV SÜD. “This benefits manufacturers and managers, but above all the visitors of these water and amusement parks.”

“Safety check for adventure pools and water parks”

By offering its new “Safety Check for Adventure Pools and Water Parks”, TÜV SÜD supports the managers of these facilities in meeting the increasingly strict safety requirements, and thus in fulfilling their responsibility as owners and operators. For this purpose TÜV SÜD has worked with Frankfurt/Main-based company corporate momentum GmbH to develop a modular list of criteria, which ranges from testing of individual water slides according to EN 1069 to testing of entire parks according to EN 15288 and other relevant directives. The modular structure of the Safety Check enables the process to provide solutions to a wide variety of demands made by the managers of pools and parks of all sizes.
