TÜV SÜD’s front-line role in coordinating and developing the International Standards ISO 30500 for non-sewered sanitation systems (NSSS) and ISO 31800 for faecal sludge treatment units uniquely positions us to guide and support innovators and manufacturers in achieving certification.

The certification mark is based on the ISO 30500: 2018 standard. This standard defines general safety and performance requirements for design and testing as well as sustainability considerations.
The certification mark is based on the ISO 31800: 2020 standard. This standard defines the performance, safety, and sustainability of community-scale resource recovery faecal sludge treatment units as well as technical robustness and safety in terms of human health and the environment.
The Sanitation Readiness Index (SRI) is an online platform developed to help manufacturers and technology owners assess, improve, and comply with ISO 30500 Non-Sewered Sanitation Systems.
