About the Course
The Energy Manager Certification course is a comprehensive program to develop the technical knowledge, understanding, and skills of an Energy Practitioner to the fundamentals of ISO 50001 and R.A. 11285. It is the adherence to R.A. 11285 (EEC Act) Section 3, which states that all Designated Establishments to provide a framework for introducing and institutionalizing fundamental policies on energy efficiency and conservation, including the promotion of efficient and judicious utilization of energy, and increase in the utilization of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
TÜV SÜD Energy Manager Certification course is composed of eight modules that cover all required competencies of an Energy Manager. The modules cover the basic, common, and core competencies. Each module is to be taught by an Expert and DOE Certified Professional.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN FROM THE COURSE?
The main objective of the certification course is to develop a competent Energy Manager who will lead his assigned Designated Establishment in the implementation of an Energy Management System through the application of ISO 50001 and adherence to R.A. 11285.
The course will provide the following specific objectives:
- Develop and implement an energy management system
- Evaluate energy management implementation and practices
- Implement energy audit and identify significant energy used
- Apply renewable energy sources and other related technologies
WHAT IS THE COURSE METHODOLOGY?
The TÜV SÜD Energy Manager Certification course is Instructor-led, with a focus on trainee interaction and participation. It has four (4) phases.
Phase one (1) is the classroom lecture and discussion. The lectures are composed of eight (8) modules that cover all the required skills and knowledge of an Energy Manager. It also involves continuous learning from the trainer and trainees through technical and best practices sharing from their respective industry types.
Phase two (2) is the assessment of each trainee through quizzes, recitation, and case studies. A quiz with thirty (30) items is to be given to each trainee after each module completion. It is time-bound and subject to retake if not passed. Lecture participation is recorded as their recitation, it is required to have at least one (1) recitation per day of training. And lastly, a case study is to be submitted in preparation for the field work and technical report. The case study will cover the historical data gathering and assessment of the current Energy Management System in their respective designated establishments.
Phase three (3) is the actual field work of each trainee, wherein they need to provide a Technical Report as their final requirement to finish the course. The technical report should follow the PDCA approach by providing the following details of their designated establishments: (a) Grasping of the Current Condition; (b) Understanding the Gap for Improvement; (c) Cause Analysis; and (d) Application of Energy Management System, and Improvement Recommendations.
Phase four (4) is for each trainee’s continuous improvement. It is a self-paced development in their respective designated establishments and careers. It is their application of their learning in the course, as they apply the Energy Management System in their industry, and seek certification as Energy Manager in the Department of Energy.
WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE?
- Energy Practitioners: Licensed Engineer with at least 2 years of relevant industry experience within the last 5 years
- Designated EE Practitioner of the company/Energy Managers
- Facility/Utility Engineers: In-charge of facility management and maintenance that seeks Energy Efficiency and Conservation
