RESS (Renewable Energy Sources System) mode will become a trend of the future


Thanks to policy orientation and financial subsidies of the governments around the world for many years, wind energy and solar energy distributed renewable energy generation has gained rapid development. However, with rising proportion of distributed renewable energy generation capacity in total capacity of the power grid, the natural instability of wind energy, PV or other renewable energy has caused increasingly evident impact onto the safety and stability of power grid. In order to fill the gap of RESS specification in early stage, TÜV SÜD Group compiled and released internal standard PPP 59034A:2014 for household and small and medium-sized energy storage systems and internal standard PPP 59044A:2015 for large-scale energy storage system by resorting to its rich experience and technical accumulation in PV, wind energy and energy storage battery field.   1. Household and Small and Medium-sized Energy Storage System

    Based on safety standard IEC 62477-1:2012 requirements of power electronics conversion equipment. As for RESS with PV input, it’s suggested to refer to the structural and test requirements on special clap test, automatic breaking arrangement, PV array earth impedance test, and residual current test, etc. in PV inverter standard IEC 62109-1he IEC 62109-2.
  2. Large-scale Industrial Energy Storage System

    The structure of large-scale industrial energy storage system is highly complicated, for the reason that one container energy storage system often includes battery system, charging and inverter system, control system, power distribution system, illuminating system, ventilation and air conditioning system, communication system, fire extinguishing system, and escape (access control) system, etc.

    According to the features of highly complicated structure, small batch, and customization of large-scale industrial energy storage system, PPP 59044A:2015 has creatively combined specification confirmation, document review, structural inspection, verification test and outgoing quality control, to simplify the process and cover the demands of the manufacturer and operator at the same time.


Requirements of grid-connection requirements

As for grid-connected RESS, to conduct test according to the manufacturer’s destination country or the grid-connection requirements of IEC.

As for off-grid RESS, it’s not required to consider the requirements of the grid-connection conformity, but it’s required to meet the requirements of IEC 62109-2 on output waveform.
