TÜV SÜD wins HR Excellence Award for
Corporate Health Programme

TÜV SÜD's Global Step Challenge won the HR Excellence Award in the “Corporations Wellbeing (Health & Safety)” category. The Corporate Health Management initiative motivated thousands of staff worldwide to incorporate more physical activity into their workdays.
TÜV SÜD staff from 26 countries participated in the challenge, walking a total distance equivalent to 22.5 times around the world in 60 days. The award jury evaluated the initiatives submitted for their creativity, innovation, implementation, strategy, effectiveness and results.

The objective of the initiative was to motivate TÜV SÜD's 24,000-plus staff worldwide to incorporate more physical activity into their workdays and strengthen internal networking. “The heterogeneous target group proved to be a major challenge in this context”, explains Nicole Commeßmann, Head of Global Health & Safety at TÜV SÜD AG. From IT experts in Germany to food chemists in Italy, product testers in Asia and medical-device testing staff in the USA, the objective of the initiative was to give all employees the opportunity to participate.

Meeting this challenge head on, Corporate Health Management developed an online platform and an app with a virtual route through the TÜV SÜD world. On this tour, participants learned interesting facts about the more than
1,000 TÜV SÜD locations worldwide, their fields of activities and regional health activities. Overall, thousands of employees from 26 countries took part in the challenge and together covered over 900,000 kilometres (roughly 600,000 miles) in the pedometer campaign. “Besides the high level of participation, we are particularly happy that 75 percent of participants intend to continue being more active after the challenge”, says Nicole Commeßmann.

TÜV SÜD established Global Corporate Health Management in 2014 to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of its employees.
