TÜV SÜD expertise in Building Information Modelling in worldwide demand

Correctly implemented, Building Information Modelling (BIM) offers crucial benefits for the planning, construction and operation of building and infrastructure projects. TÜV SÜD is now supporting use of the BIM method in many of the world's countries and regions by establishing a Global Centre of Competence (CoC) BIM.

Laboratory BIM Audit

Building Information Modelling (BIM) stands for integral, model-based optimisation and digital life-cycle management of building and infrastructure projects. When appropriately standardised and combined with other technologies such as IoT or CAFM, BIM models can also be used for enhancing efficiency in the operational phase. Using the BIM method can reduce both construction and operating costs by offering tools such as combined area, material and energy simulations plus virtual design and construction of building services systems focused on optimum maintenance.

By establishing a Global Centre of Competence BIM, TÜV SÜD is further expanding the scope of its expertise and capacities in this important field. “Our commitment to BIM by no means ends with the use of BIM models in planning and design”, says Joachim Birnthaler, CEO of the Real Estate & Infrastructure Division at TÜV SÜD. “In fact, we implement BIM processes and technologies as well as the necessary tests and certifications throughout planning, construction and operation.” With BIM, TÜV SÜD experts can simulate the entire life cycle at an early stage of the planning process, thereby ensuring earlier, faster and clearer integration of quality, cost certainty and sustainability.

“BIM is the dominant topic among many of our customers from the real-estate and rail industries, including those outside Germany”, says Tobias Schmidt, Head of the new Global CoC BIM. “We support property owners and investors, architects and specialist planners in the correct application of BIM, helping them to reap measurable benefits from the advantages offered by this method.” Property owners that manage their own portfolio will find the BIM method particularly helpful. TÜV SÜD offers a four-stage model of BIM Management services, comprising BIM Consulting-Strategy Development-Implementation as well as BIM Engineering, BIM Audits and BIM Management.

After launching the model with several successful projects in Germany and the UK, TÜV SÜD is now embarking on the international rollout of its BIM services, focusing at first open high-growth countries and regions including China, Korea, Singapore and the Middle East. A major advantage of TÜV SÜD is that in every international BIM project, local experts on site collaborate with the CoC BIM. The awareness of national and regional features combined with TÜV SÜD's business, technology and engineering expertise will accelerate BIM transformation and ensure high-quality implementation of the digital models.
