TÜV SÜD informs about the new ISO 45001 standard

To protect the health and physical wellbeing of employees and other individuals in the company, the “Project Committee PC 283” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed the new ISO 45001 standard. Published on 12 March 2018, the new standard describes the requirements for occupational health and safety management systems and includes guidelines for its implementation.

The new ISO 45001 standard was developed to perceptibly reduce the risk of injuries, accidents and work-related illnesses in companies. The standard aims at improving occupational safety not only for a company's personnel but for all other individuals working in a company and at maintaining or even improving their workplace health. The BS OHSAS 18001 standard of 2007 that has been used to date will be withdrawn after a transitional period of 3 years. ISO 45001 will thus soon become the authoritative standard for occupational health and safety management systems. Companies which have implemented a certified occupational health and safety management system according to OHSAS 18001 should therefore start addressing the details of the new standard soon.

For more detailed information and an overview of the new requirements of ISO 45001 and the changes compared to BS OHSAS 18001.
